Art Deco Walnut Display Cabinet

Description

A particularly attractive 1930s figured walnut display cabinet, combining elegant Art Deco styling with softer traditional influences typical of British furniture of the interwar period.

The cabinet has a warm, richly figured walnut finish, with the grain particularly prominent across the broad rounded uprights and upper sections. Rather than the sharper angular forms sometimes associated with Art Deco furniture, this example has a softer and more refined appearance, making it very easy to place within both traditional and modern interiors.

A pair of glazed doors encloses the display area. Each door is divided by slender wooden glazing bars arranged in an asymmetric geometric design, with carved scrolling details positioned towards the centre. The arrangement gives the cabinet a distinctive decorative quality without obscuring the contents.

The sides are also glazed, allowing light to pass through from several directions. The cabinet is framed by tall rounded uprights with attractive walnut figuring, while a shallow raised gallery runs around the rear of the top. Below, four elegant cabriole-style legs lift the cabinet away from the floor. Inside are two glass shelves, creating three generous display areas. The interior has been finished with a light patterned lining to the back and base, providing a neutral background against which displayed pieces show particularly well.

Its warm timber, strong vertical proportions and abundance of glass make it a particularly useful piece for adding storage and display space without visually overwhelming a room. Perfect for displaying collectibles or would make a fantastic drinks cabinet.
