Description

A wonderfully nostalgic vintage oil painting day Ng to around 1960 / 1970's, depicting a mother and child beside a calm lakeside landscape.

The two figures form the focal point of the composition, the mother dressed in a soft coral-red gown and bonnet while the child stands beside her looking out across the water. Beyond them, the lake stretches towards low wooded islands and a hazy distant shoreline beneath a pale, softly worked sky.

The restrained blues, greens and warm autumnal tones give the scene a gentle, romantic character, while the brighter red clothing brings just enough colour to lift the composition.

It is presented in a substantial ornate gilt-effect frame with scrolling foliate moulding, floral corner motifs and a beaded inner border. The darker antiqued finish within the recesses of the frame gives it a particularly good sense of depth and works beautifully with the muted colours of the painting.

A lovely decorative piece for a bedroom, sitting room, hallway or gallery wall, particularly suited to traditional, country-house or layered vintage interiors.
