Description
A charming vintage oil painting, dating to around 1960 / 1970's, depicting a mother and child standing together beside a wide stretch of calm water.
The composition opens out beautifully across the landscape, with the figures positioned to the left looking towards distant wooded islands and a softly painted horizon. Small touches of pink, rust and ochre through the foreground planting add warmth against the cooler blues of the lake and sky.
The mother is dressed in a soft blue gown and bonnet, while the child beside her introduces a warmer note of ochre and cream. Their placement gives the painting a gentle narrative quality without overwhelming the landscape itself.
The artist has used a traditional decorative technique, with textured foliage and softer handling through the water and sky to create depth.
The painting is presented in a matching ornate gilt-effect frame with scrolling floral detail, heavily moulded corners and a beaded inner border. The frame has an attractively aged finish, with darker antiquing emphasising the raised decoration.
A very easy piece to place, particularly in a bedroom, hallway, sitting room or gallery wall where a softer traditional landscape would work well.
