Carved Oak Sideboard / Dresser

Description

A substantial late Victorian carved oak sideboard, dating from around 1890–1910 and retaining an impressive three-panel mirrored back.

The upper section is framed by turned supports and surmounted by a shaped carved pediment, with three mirror plates above a pair of decorative panels worked with flowing foliate motifs and small floral roundels.

Below, the generous oak serving surface sits over two drawers with decorative metal handles and a pair of panelled cupboards. Both cupboard doors feature particularly effective carved leaf decoration, while the interior provides useful shelved storage.

The warm, darkened oak has developed plenty of character with age, while the relatively restrained carving gives the piece a lighter appearance than many heavily ornamented Victorian sideboards of the period.

A practical piece of period furniture with considerable decorative presence, equally suited to a dining room, kitchen, hallway or larger living space.

length 121cm / depth 46cm / height 226cm
