Description
A wonderfully decorative vintage oil painting depicting Venice's famous Rialto Bridge, seen from the Grand Canal with gondolas passing beneath and figures making their way across the bridge.
Painted in a restrained palette of soft blues, creams, muted terracotta and grey, the work has considerable surface texture throughout. Palette-knife and brushwork have been used to build the architectural details of the bridge and surrounding buildings, while the foliage to the upper corner has a particularly attractive stippled finish.
Small figures and gondolas bring life to the scene without overwhelming the composition, and reflections across the canal give the painting depth.
Presented in an impressive ornate gilt-effect frame with scrolling foliate decoration, an inner gilt slip and bead detailing. The aged finish to the frame works particularly well with the muted colours of the painting.
A substantial and highly decorative piece of wall art with all the atmosphere of Venice, and an excellent choice for anyone looking for an original painted work
