Description
A substantial limited-edition framed print after French painter Marcel Dyf (1899–1985), depicting the peaceful rural landscape La Route du Village.
The composition captures a quiet country road winding through open fields towards a small village on the horizon. Soft blues, greens and warm wheat tones give the scene a light, relaxed character, while a small figure beneath the trees adds scale and draws the eye along the road towards the distant rooftops and church spire.
Published by Frost & Reed Limited of London in 1986, this example forms part of a single edition limited to just 500 copies and is individually numbered 197/500.
The original Frost & Reed label remains attached to the reverse and records an interesting history behind the edition. Marcel Dyf had seen and approved the project shortly before his death in 1985. At his request, the edition was completed with his name and an original pencil motif by his sister-in-law, artist Jacqueline Godat.
This makes the piece considerably more interesting than an ordinary reproduction, particularly with its original publisher’s documentation still intact.
At 89cm × 80cm overall, this is a generously proportioned picture set in a decorative gilt frame, would sit particularly well above a sideboard, console or fireplace.
A decorative and well-documented limited-edition print with an attractive connection to both Marcel Dyf and the long-established London art publisher Frost & Reed.
framed size: 89cm x 80cm
