Description
A substantial vintage wall mirror with a richly decorated gilt frame and beautifully bevelled mirror plate.
The rectangular frame features an elaborate repeating pattern of scrolling acanthus-style foliage, worked in an open pierced design around the outer border. A narrower decorative inner moulding surrounds the mirror itself, giving the piece plenty of depth without overwhelming the glass.
The finish is a warm antiqued gold, with darker tones within the recessed ornament which emphasise the scrolling detail and give the mirror a much more aged appearance.
The bevelled mirror plate is another particularly attractive feature, catching the light around its perimeter and giving the piece a good sense of quality.
Stylistically it takes inspiration from Baroque and Rococo decorative frames, but the construction suggests a late-20th-century revival piece, probably dating from approximately the 1970s–1990s.
