Description
A vintage Georgian Revival chest of drawers, beautifully proportioned and finished with richly figured mahogany drawer fronts dating to around the 1930s–1950s.
The chest has a simple rectangular top with a moulded edge, sitting above three graduated drawers. Each drawer is framed with fine cockbeading and veneered in figured mahogany, creating a lovely flowing grain pattern across the front of the piece.
Traditional brass ring handles with decorative circular backplates give the chest a suitably period appearance, while individual keyholes to each drawer add further Georgian-style detail.
The lower section is particularly attractive, with the chest raised on four carved cabriole legs. The front legs incorporate shell-like carved decoration at the knees before sweeping down into shaped feet, giving the otherwise compact piece a much more elegant profile.
Internally, the drawers are constructed in pale secondary timber and provide useful practical storage. The combination of substantial drawer construction and decorative mahogany fronts gives the piece a pleasing balance between quality and everyday usability.
A very usable piece of traditional furniture with strong figuring to the mahogany and enough period-style detail to give it character without being overly ornate. Its compact proportions make it particularly versatile. It could be used as a bedside chest, lamp table, hallway piece or small storage chest in a sitting room or study.
