Description
A decorative vintage oval wall mirror with an ornate floral frame finished in warm antiqued gold. Influenced by earlier Rococo and Baroque decorative styles.
The vertically proportioned oval mirror is surrounded by a continuous raised design of flowers, leaves and scrolling foliage. The frame has darker shading within the recessed areas, bringing out the depth of the moulding and giving the piece an attractive aged character.
The floral ornament runs continuously around the frame, creating plenty of detail without making the mirror excessively heavy in appearance. Its softly rounded oval shape balances the richer decoration particularly well.
The mirror plate remains the main focus of the piece, making it practical as well as decorative. At approximately 57 cm high, it is a useful size for a hallway, bedroom, dressing area or above a small console table, chest or fireplace.
It would also work very well as part of a collection of gilt mirrors and framed artwork, where the oval form provides a useful contrast to the predominantly square and rectangular shapes normally found on a gallery wall.
The antiqued gold colouring sits comfortably alongside both traditional dark furniture and lighter interiors, making this an easy decorative piece to incorporate into an existing room.
